कमलामोदमधुरैः कलहंसकुलाकुलैः। क्रीडासरोभिः सहिता मणिसोपानमञ्जुलैः॥ कमल-आमोद-मधुरैः  कलहंस-कुलाकुलैः   क्रीडासरोभिः   सहिताः   मणि-सोपान-मञ्जुलैः कमल-आमोद-मधुरैः  = by lotus-smell-sweets = by those fragrant with the smell of lotuses. कलहंस-कुलाकुलैः = by swans-inhabited = by those that are inhabited by beautiful swans क्रीडासरोभिः = by pleasure-ponds सहिताः = attached मणि-सोपान-मञ्जुलैः = by gem-steps-lakes = by lakes that had gem-set steps The city had sporting-lakes, fragrant with the smell of lotuses. Those lakes had gem-set steps and were always inhabited by beautiful swans.

उत्फुल्लचम्पकाशोकनागकेसरकेसरैः। वसन्तवासभवनैरारामैरभितो वृता॥ उत्फुल्ल-चम्पक-अशोक-नाग-केसर-केसरैः = by flowering-campaka-asoka-naga-kesara-kesara(trees) वसन्त-वास-भवनैः = by spring-abode-houses = by those  which looked like abodes of Spring आरामैः = gardens अभितः = fully वृता = surrounded The city was also surrounded by pleasure-groves which looked like abodes of Spring and which were full of flowering trees like campaka, asoka, naga and kesara

स्फुरन्मणिप्रभाहूतपुरुहूतशरासनैः। सुमेरुशृङ्गसङ्काशैर्गोपुरैरुपशोभिता॥ स्फुरत्-मणि-प्रभा-आहूत-पुरुहूत-शर-आसनैः = by lofty-gem-light-called(set)-"called/invoked by many"-arrow-seats = by lofty gem-set  सुमेरु-शृङ्ग-सङ्काशैः = by sumeru-peak-appearances = by those appearing like peaks of the Sumeru mountain गोपुरैः = by gopuras/towers उपशोभिता = decorated Decorated by Lofty and gem-set towers carrying many bows like the peaks of the Sumeru emitting rainbow colours adorned the city.

कस्तूरीहरिणाक्रान्तकर्पूरकदलीतलैः। मनोभवमहादुर्गैर्महिता केलिपर्वतैः॥ कस्तूरी-हरिणा-क्रान्त-कर्पूर-कदली-तलैः = by musk-deer-frequented-karpura-plaintain-shades = by those frequented by musk deer under the shade of the plantains and karpura plants मनोभव-महा-दुर्गैः = by kamadeva-veritable-"hiding spots" = by those that looked like the veritable hiding places of the God of Love महिता = worshipped/honoured केलि-पर्वतैः = by the pleasure-hilocks (The city of Vijayanagara,) Honoured by the pleasure-hillocks in the city were frequented by the musk deer that sought the shade of the plantains and the karpura plants in them and by these hillocks looked like the veritable hiding places of the God of Love

लक्ष्मीलतालवालेन क्ष्मावधूनाभिशोभिना। चक्राचलप्रकारेण प्राकारेन परिष्कृता॥ लक्ष्मी-लता-आलवालेन = by Lakshmi-creeper-"water trench" = by that which is surrounded by the water trench just as it surrounds the Lakshmi creeper क्ष्मा-वधू-नाभि-शोभिना = by earth-female(goddess?)-navel-brilliant = by that which looks like the brilliant navel of the Goddess Earth चक्राचल-प्रकारेण = by Cakraacala-type = by that which resembles Cakraacala प्राकारेन = by the wall/rampart परिष्कृता = rectified/surrounded The city was also surrounded by ramparts on all sides which were high as the Cakraacala mountains; and it had the beauty of a water-trench round the creeper laksmi and looked like the navel of Goddess Earth

सुरलोकान्तसङ्क्रान्तस्वर्णदीमत्सरादिव। परिखाकारतां यान्त्या परीता तुङ्गभद्रया॥ सुरलोक-अन्त-सङ्क्रान्त-स्वर्णदी-मत्सरात् = from Swargaloka-border-flowed-Ganga-jealousy = jealous of the heavenly Ganges that flowed round the borders of swargaloka इव = as if परिखा-कारताम् = moat-creation या = which अन्त्या = lowest place परीता =  surrounded तुङ्गभद्रया = By the Tungabhadra As if in rivalry with the heavenly Ganges that flowed round the borders of swargaloka, the river Tungabhadra encircled the city as a formidable moat.

तस्यासीद् विजया नाम विजयार्जितसंपदः। राजधानी बुधैः श्लाघ्या शक्रस्येवामरावती॥ तस्य =  His आसीत् = Was विजया = victorious (fem adj to राजधानी) विजय-अर्जित-संपदः = from victory-earned-wealth = apart from earned riches by conquest राजधानी = capital बुधैः = by learned men श्लाघ्या = praiseworthy (adj to राजधानी) शक्रस्य = of Indra एव = indeed अमरावती = Amaravati He who earned his riches by conquest had the famous Vijayanagara for his capital city, praised by learned men, as Indra's Amaraavati won that of the gods
