विमर्दव्यक्तसौरभ्या भारती भारवेः कवेः।
धत्ते वकुलमालेव विदग्धानां चमत्क्रियाम्
  • विमर्द-व्यक्त-सौरभ्या = squeezing-clear-smell = sweet fragrance only when pressed
  • भारती = language
  • भारवेः = of bhaaravi (writer of kiraataarjuniiyam)
  • कवेः = of the poet (bhaaravi)
  • धत्ते = yields (आत्मनेपदे of दधाति)
  • वकुल-माला-इव=like a garland made of vakula flowers
  • विदग्धानाम् = of the learned ones
  • चमत्क्रियाम् = excellence (acc.)
Just as the garland of vakula flowers yields its sweet fragrance only when pressed, so too, the language of Bhaaravi discloses its excellence and gives delight to the learned only if pondered upon.
